What can cause whiplash?
Whiplash is term we use when a person’s head is jolted forward or backward in rapid session and the muscles in the neck are stretched to absorb the pressure. This abnormal motion and force makes it difficult and/or painful to move the head.
What are common signs?
  • Dizziness
  • Feeling of movement when in rest and not moving
What type of exercise help whiplash?
Flexion:
  • Start in a standing or sitting upright position
  • Insure ear aligned with shoulders
  • Take a deep breath and gently bring you chin towards your chest as you exhale
  • Hold for 5 seconds and return to start position
Extension:
  • Start by standing or sitting in an upright position
  • Insure ears lined with shoulder
  • Take a deep breath and gently extend your neck backwards (as your looking toward the ceiling)
  • Gently bring your neck back to starting position while exhaling
  • Hold this for 5 seconds
  • Bilateral rotation:
  • Start by standing or sitting in an upright position
  • Insure ears lined with shoulder
  • Take a deep breath and gently look towards you shoulder (as far as you comfortably can)
  • Hold this for 5 seconds
  • Return to the starting position and repeat on other side
